After the West African country was hit by the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, Ghana brought all their various local football leagues to a halt.
However, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the football governing body in Ghana has finally decided, together with the football teams, to resume the 2020/21 Ghana Premier League season on November 14, 2020, under very strict conditions while adhering to all the COVID-19 protocols.

18 Premier League clubs are expected to compete this season and as such several of these teams have started testing their players for the Coronavirus.
The GFA recently trained Safety and Security officers of these 18 clubs towards a smooth take-off of the 2020/2021 football season.

Heart of Oak will be traveling to play Aduana Stars as a season-opening match in the tournament on November 14 at 3pm.
On that same day, Legon Cities will be welcoming Berekum Chelsea as they also battle it out on the field.

Most Ghanaian football lovers are having a mixed feeling of both excitement and fear at the same time due to the fact that the virus still lingers on in the world as the football season begins.
Accra Hearts of Oak have however been hit hard with three of their players testing positive for COVID-19. The Accra based team said those three players are currently in isolation as they undergo treatment.

So far, the biggest sign up for the 2020/21 GPL season is Ghanaian International and former captain of the Ghana Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan, joining Legon Cities FC as their top striker.
The former Sunderland striker returns to the Ghana Premier League where it all began for him 17 years ago with Liberty Professionals.
Asamoah Gyan, popularly known as ‘Baby Jet’ joins former Black Stars goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda who was also signed by the club last season.
Asamoah Gyan is the all-time leading goalscorer of the Ghana national team, with 51 goals and has played in three FIFA World Cups, 2006, 2010, and 2014.
